Melanie Shaffer graduated from Elmhurst College with her K-12 Music Education degree in 2019. Melanie is a classically trained clarinet and bass clarinet player who studied under Gail Crosson at Elmhurst. During her time in college she participated in the Wind Ensemble and spent two years as the principal bass clarinet of the Concert Band under the direction of Judy Grimes and later, James Hile. Melanie has participated in the Chicago Clarinet Ensemble and has performed alongside notable clarinetists John Bruce Yeh, Jorge Montilla, and Michael Lowenstern. She is a clarinet specialist and multi-instrumentalist who enjoys performing in pit orchestras for local community theater groups. Piano is also a passion of Melanie's and she especially loves teaching beginning piano in particular. She loves teaching privately and getting to know students on an individual basis, as she believes all students benefit from personalized thoughtful instruction. 

Melanie teaches clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano and percussion.
